Die optimale Partikelgrößenverteilung von Lithopon, die durch Co-Präzipitation und Kalzinierung erreicht wird, ermöglicht eine hohe scheinbare Dichte, die dem Lithopon einen geringen Harzbedarf und ein hervorragendes rheologisches Verhalten verleiht.
Die niedrige Mohs-Härte des Pigments führt zu einem geringen Abrieb im Vergleich zu TiO2.
Weitere herausragende Eigenschaften von Lithopon sind die hohe Helligkeit, die neutrale weiße Farbe und das diffuse Reflexionsverhalten im nahen UV-Bereich.
Dank seiner rheologischen und optischen Eigenschaften bietet Lithopon sowohl technische als auch wirtschaftliche Vorteile, wo immer organische und anorganische Bindemittelsysteme eine relativ hohe Pigmentierung für spezifische Anwendungen erfordern
Lithopon wird daher traditionell in Stopf-, Kitt-, Fugen- und Dichtungsmassen, Grundierungen und Vorstreichfarben sowie in Straßenmarkierungsfarben eingesetzt.
Der so genannte „Barriere-Effekt“ ermöglicht einen guten Korrosionsschutz bei Grundierungen.
