La distribution granulométrique optimisée du lithopone obtenue par coprécipitation et calcination permet d’obtenir une densité apparente élevée qui confère au Lithopone un faible besoin en résine et son excellent comportement rhéologique.
La faible dureté Mohs du pigment produit une faible abrasion par rapport au TiO2.
D’autres propriétés exceptionnelles du Lithopone sont sa grande légèreté, sa couleur blanche neutre et sa capacité réfléchissante dans la gamme des UV proches.
Grâce à ses propriétés rhéologiques et optiques, le Lithopone offre des avantages techniques et économiques partout où les systèmes de liants organiques et inorganiques exigent une pigmentation relativement élevée pour des applications spécifiques.
Le Lithopone est donc traditionnellement utilisé pour les bouchons et les mastics, les joints d’étanchéité, les apprêts, les sous-couches ainsi que les peintures de marquage routier.
« L’effet-barrière » du Lithopone permet d’obtenir une bonne protection anticorrosion des apprêts.
